Hoover PTA Meeting
Thursday, February 10, 2011
Hoover Media Center
Hoover PTA President, Jennie Ott, called the meeting to order.
Principal's Report:
Mrs. Kehoe shared with parents the good news about Hoover's ITBS scores and explained several charts showing performance levels across years. She invited parents to approach their student's teacher or her to further discuss specific performance.
Secretary Report:
The Hoover PTA voted on a new set of bylaws, with all present voting in favor. The proposed bylaws were sent by email to members for review before the meeting, and the secretary summarized modifications. Glad to have that big job finished!
President's Report, Jennie Ott:
The next phase of fundraising was discussed. Approximately 34 families have given to this year's monetary campaign. The desire to show an investment by all Hoover families was discussed -- even if some families can only afford a small amount. Future Hoover Headlines will include a renewed request for funds, specifically highlighting particular events funded by PTA to show the important work done by the organization on behalf of all Hoover students. We are still considering requesting funds from grandparents and Hoover alumni.
Vice-President Jordan Brinkman has recently moved away from the district. The president proposed Cindy Meis' name to fill the vacancy. All present voted in favor of her nomination.
We heard about the success of the Family Enrichment Night activities. Over 80 kids were present and we know they had fun! Reportedly, many High School students who participated as presenters also had a great time. Coe College apologized for cancelling, since they could not make the make-up date, but they are interested in participating in the 2013 Math and Science night.
The Hoover Movie Night sponsored by the Student Council was a big success. Discussions were begun about additional events like this to foster community.
Treasurer's Report, Dave McDowell:
Treasurer not present. The new VP gave a summary of the report provided. Those who elected direct deposit for donations to Hoover PTA will see those amounts deducted from accounts soon. Also note: payment for Artist in Resident due to Mrs. Kehoe.
New Business
PTA received a teacher request for funds to purchase art supplies to aid Helen Neumann's volunteer work with the autism classrooms. All present voted in favor, and praised Helen for filling the need.
DPO Report, Angie Bywater:
All are invited to attend meetings held on 2nd Wednesdays of the month at 11:30 with free lunch. The February meeting covered legislative issues that may affect our schools, including State of Iowa funding. Officers are needed for the district organization, see Angie Bywater if interested. A new phone number has been added to call for the latest information on weather related school closings: 688-1234.

Another Hoover Night at El Dorado has been scheduled for April 20th. The restaurant will donate money from both lunch and dinner purchases.
March 1 is the deadline for Sarah Meehan to mail in the next batch of Box Tops for Education- so get them in quickly.
April PTA meeting will include votes for additional teacher requests.
The April meeting will begin early at 6:30 with an hour demonstration of Smart Board capabilities by Van Allen teachers. We will be discussing the PTA purchase of a Smart Board for the school.
NO MARCH PTA MEETING SCHEDULED
