Hoover Media Center

Hoover PTA President, Jennie Ott, called the meeting to order. Previous minutes were approved.

Principal's Report:

Mrs. Kehoe reported that Hoover 3/4 students represented the school well with great behavior at the City High Orchestra Concert. Hoover's 5/6 students also attended a Hancher event at Van Allen Elementary.

The installation of Hoover's first Smart Board will be next week in Ms. Dobyn's classroom. She has been trained and will be a leader to train other teachers. Thanks go out to new ICCSD Superintendent Murley for speeding up the installation process.

Mr. Murley also inspired the "Thanks to Teachers" notebook available for parents to write encouraging messages in during conference days. This works to emphasize the positive. It is a lot of work to prepare for conferences, and our teachers should be appreciated. We are hoping Mr. Murley will be able to speak to Hoover in January.

Parents expressed thanks to Ms. Kehoe for her great job handling the many changes to Hoover and for being an excellent advocate for the school.

Teacher Reports:

Ms. Madden reported that the 3-6 grades are working on typing skills, and the library is averaging 280 books a day checked out.

Ms. Cummins reported that Kindergarten is going great, and teachers are working hard getting ready for conferences. They look forward to a little "adult" conversation for a change.

President's Report, Jennie Ott:

Hoover night with the Rough Riders was reported to be great fun by all who attended.

Vice President's Report, Jordan Brannaman:

A recommendation was made to donate to the Excellence Fund in a teacher's name for the holidays.

Treasurer's Report, Dave McDowell:

Deposits were reported for the direct donations and football parking. There was a discussion whether tax receipts could be available for the parking "donation." Volunteers are often needed to help with these events. Would like to expand to include track and marching band events.

There was a general discussion regarding the progress of our direct donation campaign, and the "Part B" plan for another year to perhaps make wider solicitations for donations from the Hoover attendance area, including alumni families.

A discussion was begun about investing in additional signage for the school. Special thanks were given to Shelley and Mark Maxwell as well as Pat Sexton for their work on the Hoover Directory. Lowering the page numbers and including advertising helped defray costs.

DPO Report, Angie Bywater:

The last DPO meeting at the new Garner Elementary was informative and highlighted the large donations Hills Bank has made to the school district. There is a contest to name the new elementary school. It was also announced that Superintendent Murley would like to publish a 3-year school calendar to aid in planning.

New Business

Plans are underway for this year's Science Night, scheduled for February 3 at 6:30. Volunteers will be needed, especially to ensure that things are cleaned up for teachers the next day.

Meals for the teachers during the evening on conference day were discussed.

Sarah Meehan gave a report on the Box Tops drive. She requested an additional volunteer to help her with the Campbell's Soup labels.

The PTA Secretary announced that work to update our chapter's bylaws will be taken up in January.

Upcoming Events:

Hoover Night at El Dorado- Dec. 1.

No December meeting, but a social time is being planned.

Looking into a Hoover night to watch Iowa Women's Basketball

Respectfully submitted,

Kristal Gibson, PTA Secretary
