Officials from the Iowa City Community School District are seeking nominations for parent representatives for a committee that will offer a recommendation to the school board for future boundaries and enrollment. Four parents, one from each quadrant of the district, will take part in a 31-member “redistricting committee.”The committee will meet five times beginning in mid-November, 2009 and finishing in February, 2010, under the facilitation of RSP & Associates, a consulting firm employed by the school district.“Having parents’ voices on the committee is critical,” said Superintendent Lane Plugge. “We want to be sure that any recommendation coming to the board has been thoroughly vetted by our key constituents.”In addition to parents from each area of the district, the committee will have members from the district parent organization (DPO), students, teachers, district administrators, government leaders, and other community representatives.Interested parents may call the district’s administrative offices at 319-688-1000 or write an email to redistricting@iccsd.k12.ia.us . Included in the nomination should be the person’s name, school(s) his/her children attend, and contact information. The District Parent Organization and the Associate Superintendent will choose one parent representative from each of the four quadrants of the district. The deadline for nominations is October 26th, 2009 at noon.Additional information regarding the ICCSD redistricting process may be found on the district’s website at www.iccsd.k12.ia.us.ICCSD Redistricting Committee Parent Membership QuadrantsOne parent from each quadrant will be selected to serve on the ICCSD Redistricting Committee.
