Walk or Ride to School Day

Hoover students and families are encouraged to participate in WALK TO SCHOOL DAY, on WEDNESDAY, October 7th, 2009. This is the first time Hoover School has registered. We will be one of an expected 5, 000 schools from all states to participate. Over 40 other countries will also be involved. The purposes for this event include to:
  • promote healthy habits for our children and families
  • identify safe routes to walk
  • conserve the environment
  • raise the awareness of how walkable our community is
  • reduce traffic congestion
  • make connections between families, schools, and communities
  • to get our students really ready to learn!
According to CDC, in 1969, 87% of children would walk to school. In 2002, less than 15% of children walk. With this decrease in physical activity, there has been a dramatic increase in children being overweight or obese.
Please consider having your children, and you participate in this one day event. Let's keep our children healthy and happy!
