Hoover PTA President, Cindy Meis called the meeting to order.
President's Report, Cindy Meis:
The PTA blog has added new links: a "virtual backpack" link to the ICCSD, to the Box Tops for Educations site, and a form for contributions. The Hoover Directory is still in the works, but delayed while we try to work with the data provided electronically through Power School.
Vice-President's Report, Jenny Maiers:
The Direct Contribution letters have been sent out to Hoover families and a follow-up call will be made. Hoover night at El Dorado restaurant is coming on November 9.
Treasurer's Report, Angie Bywater:
Angie gave a report of income including direct donations, taco night, and football parking. She highlighted the income received from Target cards and encouraged others to participate- grandparents too. Expenses included the tickets for the intermediate classes to go to Slim Goodbodies in the spring.
Committee Reports
· Book Fair- the fall fair was the largest in a long time. Last year's proceeds purchased two SmartBoards with our Scholastic dollars. PTA needs to look into purchasing the projectors for those two boards.
· There was a discussion about events supporting STEM programs and how to increase participation.
· Planning has begun for this year's Family Enrichment Night for Fine Arts. Tentative plans are for January 31st with a snow day of February 7.
· Room Parents are reminded to keep taking photos for the Yearbook.
· Chairs running events may contact our volunteer coordinator, Liz McIntyre, for lists of volunteers available.
· There is an upcoming deadline for Box Tops for Education of October 31, but keep donating them as they just get rolled over onto the next date.
DPO Report, Brianna Wells
At the most recent DPO meeting the Superintendent addressed concerns about the slow installation of SmartBoards in the district and indicated that an outside vendor may be used to speed up the process. The next meeting will be on November 9th at Van Allen Elementary. The December 14 meeting will be hosted here at Hoover with the topic involving technology in education. Decisions need to be made as to how we will supply the luncheon. We were also reminded about providing the yearly scholarship honorees. We were asked to provide funds to the district to supply art frames for the new administration building to display student art. Both the Run for the Schools and the recent Dine-Out for Education were deemed successes.
New Business
A motion was made and passed to fund the art frames for the administration building.
Teacher Requests were presented. Mr. Michalski requested a cart for the keyboard. Ms. Jacobsen has requested subscriptions to two periodicals. for the upper unit. The First grade teachers have requested the purchase of 12 CD players, headphones, and some books on CD to be used for the daily reading program. There was discussion regarding whether more advanced technology (such as Kindles) might be better. The first two requests were granted as written. The first grade request was approved as a dollar figure with instructions to consult with the teachers, Ms. Jacobsen, and the district technology guidelines as to how the money should be spent. The purchase of the two projectors needed for the Scholastic SmartBoards was tabled until more information about costs is available.
Upcoming Events:
Halloween- the parade is at 2:00 and parents are invited to watch from the gym or outside on the sidewalk.
Respectfully submitted,
Kristal Gibson, PTA Secretary
