Hoover PTA Meeting
Thursday, September 9, 2010
Hoover Media Center
Hoover PTA President, Jennie Ott, called the meeting to order.
Principal's Report:
Mrs. Kehoe gave an update on her son's health, and shared how things at the school were handled while she was absent for five days at the beginning of the year. She outlined the status of the search for the new custodian, and asked for continued patience. She also listed some of the changes for this year including, another class added at the last minute and changing the specials schedule to increase instructional time. There has been positive feedback from the teachers on the changes.
She reported on the continued tweaks to the new drop off/pick up system. Those with children in both the lower and upper grades use the later vehicle drive thru time. She gave a reminder that the parking lot is now one-way with an exit out the back beside the City High track, and noted that the gate has a sensor so just pull up slowly and it will open. There are continued traffic concerns, and there is a possibility of looking into changing the traffic light timing. They are still looking into how to modify the system when the winter weather comes. She also reminded parents that students should not be at the school before 8:20 because there is not supervision available.
Vice-President Report, Jordan Brannaman:
The Homecoming Parade plans are set. Hoover will host other students with free popcorn and fellowship beginning at 7:00. Those interested in walking in the parade will need to sign a permission slip that will be coming home; wagons and signs welcome. Meet at 5:00 at Mercer. No candy will be thrown. There is a possibility Cindy Meis's father may supply an antique fire truck for the parade. The plan for Spirit Week was summarized with Monday - Wacky Hair Day, Tuesday - Comfy Day (no slippers), Wednesday - Red and White Hoover Day, Thursday - Twin Day, Friday - Hat Day.
The Ice Cream social was a success, though cramped from the rain. Big thanks were given for the generosity of Schwann's for donating the ice cream and the University of Iowa Credit Union for their donations.
Looking for volunteers to be "Block Parents" to provide a safe house in case children run into trouble while walking to school. Those interested need to pass a background check.
Treasurer's Report, Dave McDowell:
Report on end of the year finances, and noted a correction that the totals were originally underreported. So far this year, no final figures for Tee Shirt sales, but did clear $78 with Pizza sales at Ice Cream Social. Also, Target donated $790 due to Hoover parents designating Hoover with Target Credit Cards. Debit cards coming soon.
