As City High School’s
Homecoming approaches, there are a number of ways to show your enthusiasm
during Spirit Week at Hoover Elementary! Here are just a few:
March in a Parade!
On Wednesday, October 1, Hoover families are invited to march in the annual CHS Homecoming Parade. The CHS parade is an Eastside tradition that
allows us to show our support for CHS and that showcases all the great schools
thriving on this side of town.
For Hoover, this is a great opportunity to show our 60 YEARS
of school pride!!
Parade line-up starts at 5 p.m. at Mercer Park. The parade
starts at 6 p.m., running along 1st Avenue from Mercer to the CHS football
field (close to the home of the famous Hoover Walking Taco -- be sure to stop
by and grab one!).
To help you find us, we will post our parade slot number
once we receive it.
Bring candy to throw if you'd like, and if you have one,
please wear your Hoover 60th t-shirt! Hoover alumni and friends are also
invited to march with us, so let them know.
Participants should use the Dover Street entrance to Mercer.
Bradford Drive will be closed to all traffic well before the parade starts.
Please use Muscatine Street to Dover to approach the park.
Help Decorate a
Float! Consider dropping by to help us decorate our great Hoover float
on Sunday, September 28, from 1-3 p.m., at 30 Ashwood Dr.
(north of CHS, accessible via Glenwood Road). The driveway is around the corner
off Ridgeway Dr. If you get lost, just look for the trailer with the
birthday cake on top!
Don’t Forget a
Walking Taco! Want a taco that reads, writes, and plays the trumpet? Well,
we can’t help you there, but we can get you one that walks. Support
Hoover and enjoy a great dinner treat by purchasing a walking taco before,
during, or after the CHS parade on October 1st.
Adults and kids love them, and PTA volunteers will be serving them up hot and
fresh on the blacktop near the Hoover garden.
We could still use a couple people to help set-up and
clean-up the taco stand. For details, visit the online sign-up:
Attend the Hoover Reunion! We need help to spread the word to the community! Do you
have neighbors, friends, or co-workers who attended Hoover "back in the
day" or who have their own grown up Hoover Stars? Are you a Hoover parent
who attended Hoover yourself? Do you facebook or twitter? Please help us spread
the word to your former classmates about the October 5th Hoover Elementary 60th
reunion. We'll be mingling on the blacktop from 1-4 with a program at 3:00.
Rain date: October 12th. Contact: Kristal.Gibson@gmail.com.
