New Hoover Principal Announcement!


Hello Hoover Families,
Dennis Harnack will be recommended by Superintendent Murley as Hoover Elementary Principal at the April 2nd Iowa City Board of Education meeting. Mr. Harnack received his B.A. from the University of Iowa and M.S. From Northern Illinois University. His experience includes 13 years as an elementary principal in Des Plaines, Illinois; Gurnee, Illinois; and most recently Mesa, Arizona. In addition, he taught art for more than 15 years at the elementary and junior high level in several schools in the Chicago area.

Mr. Harnack is currently the principal of a PK-6th grade school with over 550 students and a diverse population. The school is home to a Montessori charter program for 150 students, two autistic classrooms and three behavior classrooms. Under his leadership, Pomroy School has been designated as a Highly Performing School and received an “A” grade by the state of Arizona.

Mr. Harnack is an Iowa native and he and his wife wish to return to Iowa to be close to his family, including a son that lives in North Liberty.

The Hoover PTA is discussing a summer “Meet the Principal” event after he arrives.
