Principal Vacancy Update

Posted on District Website and content of email to Hoover PTA President from Stephen Murley:

Due to the timing of the resignation of Hoover Elementary School Principal Shannon Kehoe several adjustments will occur in the normal hiring process. The Iowa City Community School District and community reputation should make this an attractive position even though this vacancy occurs during a nontraditional administrative hiring period. We expect to have many highly qualified applicants. The position is currently posted and advertised and applications are due by July 5, 2011. If we have a rich and deep pool of applicants we will conduct interviews during either the week of July 18 or the week of July 25. After thorough reference checks, four or five candidates will be selected for an interview. There will be two interview teams including a site-based committee consisting of the Executive Director of Human Resources, two parents, two or three teachers, and one support staff person. A second committee consisting of central office administrators and the Superintendent will also be part of the process. All candidates are required to complete a writing exercise. Depending on the results of the search, it may be in the District’s best interest to place an interim principal at Hoover Elementary School and then advertise again during the primary hiring season immediately following the Winter Break. Once District personnel have analyzed the qualifications of the pool of candidates, the Superintendent will make a decision on how to proceed.
